It was another exciting and rewarding day to be pedigree charollais breeder as the ring was set on fire at Tullow livestock mart for the annual Pedigree Charollais sheep society female sale.
The sale remained a hive of activity both ringside and also online where there was a vast amount of interest keeping Auctioneer on the day Mr.Eric Driver busy for the entirety of the sale.
Leading the trade was the Pre Sale Champion from the Lisfuncheon pen of Eddie and Paul O’Gorman, this smart Bawnard Wall Street sired hogget ewe with Riverdale Top Notch on the dams side attracted a flurry of bids finally finding her reserve at €3,150 to Roscrea based breeder Michael Fitzgerald and Family for his Green Acre charollais flock.
Following this came another smart hogget ewe from the A6 Saddlehill flock of James Murphy, this time a Turret Barracuda daughter who had five stars across the board ranking in the top 1% Terminal Index she was snatched up for €1,900.
It was a long wait for Michael and Sarah O’Neill but a worthwhile one as they had lot 45 the final hogget into the ring, A Tullyear Ambassador II sired daughter again with five stars on both her Terminal and Replacement Index’s she found her reserve at €1,600 ringside.
Overall the inlamb hogget ewes averaged €838 with an Overall clearance of 95%.

The ewe lamb section was dominated by Mr.Tom O’Keefe of the Knocknacappall flock he was placed both 1st and 2nd and also claimed top price in the ewe lamb section for Lot 53 a Kilbarry Ambush sired daughter back to a homebred dam she attracted plenty of attention finding her new home at €850. Following close behind this was another Co.Cork breeder this time it was James Walsh of the Shanvagoon Flock with his Kellistown Verewolf sired daughter reaching €800 at the drop of the hammer!
The society was also glad to hold the reduction sale of Donie and Rita Foley of the Leam Na Goilla flock, they reached a top of €1,300 for Lot 70 a smart daughter of Leam Na Goilla Victor and inlamb to the highly regarded Blackduff.
