about us

The Irish Charollais Sheep Society

Welcome to the Official Website of the Irish Charollais Sheep Society. This page is managed exclusively by the Society to primarily promote the Charollais breed encompassing both pedigree and commercial flocks.

The Society was founded in 1990, with the importation of some Charollais ewes from France and its main objective is to promote the Charollais breed within the Island of Ireland.

Steadily and consistently the merits of the breed have been recognized. Traits including ease of lambing, hardiness at birth, faster fattening times and high percentage kill-out have ensured that we have dominated the Terminal sire market within Ireland for the past thirty years. The Society today consists of in excess of 300 pedigree breeders located throughout the Country. These breeders are consistently producing top quality Rams and Ewes for use in both pedigree and commercial flocks.

Each year our Premier Sale is the held the end of July. Following after this a large number of sales are organized at various locations.

Finally in October our In-Lamb Ewe Sale is held. These are an ideal opportunity for existing breeders to introduce new bloodlines into their flock & also for new and intending breeders to purchase the 5 registered females necessary to become a member of the Society.
