The Irish Charollais Sheep Society are celebrating 30 years since it’s foundation in 2020. On Saturday May 23rd once again the Society will join forces with the NSBA Championships to host their All Ireland Championship at Cillín Hill Co.Kilkenny.
We are also delighted to confirm that we have Greenvale Feeds as sponsors of our event. Greenvale have been associated with the Irish Charollais Society for more years than we care to remember and they are a huge asset to the success of the biggest annual showing competition on our calendar. Hosted by the NSBA Red Mills Sheep Championships which is now in it’s 3rd year, this event is gaining momentum in sheep calendars annually. We are very happy to be involved for the 3rd consecutive year of their event, which we are without doubt will be successful to showcase the sheep industry in Ireland.
The judge for the day will be Edward Buckley of the D82 Kilbarry Flock from Co. Cork. Edward has recently completed the longest serving term of any Chairman in the history of the Society. Having judged in Ireland, England, France and Mexico it was only fitting that Edward be selected to judge in our 30th Anniversary year. Six pedigree classes will be considered by Edward as he selects through the various range of top quality exhibits from breeders throughout the country to eventually decide his Champions. A full day of Charollais classes and displays are on the schedule. There will also be various sheep handling equipment companies on hand with their wares to make the life of a sheep farmer much simpler and less labour intensive! Therefore a great day out is guaranteed.
This year sees the introduction of a new Young Handlers class. This is for 9-16 year olds.. and their ability to show their Charollais will be considered as well as their knowledge of the breed. We are confident that this will add to the excitement of the day.
There will also be commercial classes at the event and we encourage a strong representation of Charollais through these classes also. A very attractive prize fund is on offer so it’s definitely worth considering to promote the traits of the Charollais breed when crossed.
Entry forms will be circulated to all breeders.
Entry forms for the commercial classes can be obtained from email@example.com
Charollais as the top terminal breed in the country are determined to make our mark this year in Kilkenny. Join the force and get those entries in.
