The Irish Charollais Sheep Society are delighted to be returning to Tullow Livestock Mart for the 30th Anniversary sale of the Society on Saturday 25th July starting at 1pm. As this year to date has been dominated totally by Covid 19 and the cancellation of all shows and events to curb its spread, the impact has been significant from a social perspective so a Premier sale is now eagerly anticipated. It is expected that this year we will have approximately 200 pedigree registered Charollais sheep on offer. The Charollais breed continues to excel in popularity in Ireland. This will be the largest choice and selection of Charollais sheep in the South of Ireland to be offered for sale in one mart this year!! Both ringside and online bidding will be available on the day and those intending to bid must contact Tullow mart prior to the sale to facilitate this. The breeders involved will have the top choice of their flocks on offer which will include: Ram lambs and hoggets and shearling ewe and ewe lambs. For potential new members deciding to join the Charollais Breed this is the ideal opportunity to purchase your foundation stock of 5 registered females that are necessary to join the Society. Finally and arguably most important you will then need the all important ram to produce your own 2021 champions!! This is your chance to have access to the top Rams from some of the best bloodlines currently within the country.


Why should I buy Charollais?

This is a question that is asked again & again by farmers who are looking to increase their profit margin in a very constructive and challenging market. First introduced as a Terminal lambing sire 30 years ago the Irish Charollais Sheep Society was founded in 1990. The core function of the Society is the promotion and development of the breed within the island of Ireland.

Charollais are renowned for producing vigorous lambs with ease of lambing, quicker flesh gain and heavier weights with low fat cover.

Currently within the Society there are almost 230 pedigree Charollais breeders located throughout the country and most of these are producing lambs for repeat customers who have built up confidence in the breed that is unparalleled to rival any other breed. A significant amount of breeders are active participants in the Sheep Ireland LambPlus scheme, which is used an aide to assist farmers select rams with high Euro star evaluations that will generate better returns for their investment, All sale catalogues this year will be printed with Euro Star evaluations to make the process of ram selection more straightforward. Charollais are the top choice of commercial farmers and producers due largely to their hardiness at birth and adaptability to thrive in harder conditions.
